Put aside those Lambo wishes and laser-eyed NFTs for a second. The crypto landscape in 2025 has to be about so much more than rocket ships to the moon. It’s got to be more than talk about constructing a financial system that truly serves all of us. And that begins with the media we read.
I’m Ellyna — and to be honest, I’m fed up with the echo chamber. The same actors, the same vested interests, the same old perspectives, the same echo chamber narratives absolutely drowning every aspect of the crypto news cycle. It's time we demand better. We need to support the crypto news space to create a more diverse social impact oriented industry.
Who Gets a Seat At the Table?
Why it matters who’s telling the story of crypto Because whoever owns the story, owns tomorrow. The traditional finance world has often been considered the most exclusionary, boys club of privilege. Tech? Not much better. In crypto, with all of its decentralization, this should not be the case. Is it, really?
Think about it. How many women analysts do you read quoted routinely. How many developers from developing countries building real-world, palpably useful solutions with blockchain do you hear from. How many pieces discuss the ethics of DeFi, or the eco-consequences of proof-of-work consensus methods?
The absence of diversity is not only an issue of equity, it’s anti-business. Homogenous thinking leads to blind spots. In doing so, we fail to predict exploitable vulnerabilities. This halos us blind to the needs of complex user bases, which in the end creates a less resilient and imaginative ecosystem.
Imagine a world where crypto education is accessible in multiple languages, empowering individuals in underserved communities to participate in the digital economy. Imagine a crypto news world that centers and amplifies the perspectives of women. It defends and advocates for people of color and citizens from developing countries. Contrary to what some critics may say, this isn’t simply “woke”-ism. This is about realizing the true potential crypto has to offer.
What should we, and the crypto media industries’ brightest minds, be hoping to see in 2025? The ones that intentionally amplify historically underrepresented voices. They don’t stop short at claiming to want inclusivity. They don’t just schedule it, they embed climate deeply into their own editorial mission.
Inclusivity Drives Innovation, Period
I’m not going to name names of sites here (although Cointelegraph, NFTevening, CoinDesk, CryptoPotato and Decrypt are all sites I read). My point is, it is up to us, the consumers to demand that change. We just need to back the platforms that are doing it right and hold the rest accountable.
It's about more than just reading the news, it's about shaping the future of finance.
- Amplify Underrepresented Voices: Actively seek out and publish content from women, people of color, individuals from developing nations, and other marginalized groups in the crypto space. No more manels!
- Prioritize Social Impact: Cover the real-world impact of crypto, both positive and negative. Stories about financial inclusion, ethical considerations, and environmental sustainability should be front and center, not buried on page 10.
- Embrace Multilingual Content: Offer content in multiple languages to break down barriers to entry and reach a global audience.
- Go Beyond Price Charts: While market analysis is important, it shouldn't be the only focus. We need in-depth reporting on the technology, the people, and the social implications of crypto.
Let's be honest. We believe that crypto can be a powerful, positive force in the world. It can help empower marginalized individuals, drive financial inclusion and open doors to dynamic new economic opportunities. Only if we learn our lessons and build it the right way.
By advocating for diversity and social impact within the space of crypto news, we’re not trying to be woke. Together, we’re creating a stronger, more resilient, and more equitable financial system — and we welcome you to join us! And we’re making sure that everyone—not just a powerful, well-connected few—reaps the rewards of crypto.
What's Next? A More Equitable System
That, dear readers, is something to get really excited about. That's something worth sharing.
